The numbers are staggering: one in three Idaho children are overweight or obese, putting them at risk for serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. This generation of children likely represents the first in American history to have a shorter life expectancy than that of their parents.
We can do better.
The High Five Children’s Health Collaborative, powered by the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health, is a statewide effort to fight childhood obesity in Idaho using five proven strategies:
Improved access to healthy and affordable foods
Increased physical activity
Healthier schools and childcare facilities
Education to help parents make healthier choices
Promotion of public policies that fight the causes of obesity
